The driver of a school bus suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning after the bus was broadsided by a car at the intersection of Mesa College Drive and Armstrong Street, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.

The four children on board were unhurt. “They were all fine,” said CHP Officer Alicia Contreras.

Laidlaw school bus driver Shirley Ann White Pace, 43, complained of pain and was taken to Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Contreras said. The driver of the car, Gregory Taylor, 25, of San Diego, suffered minor scrapes and bruises and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Contreras said the bus momentarily stopped for a traffic sign as it traveled south on Armstrong and then attempted to cross the intersection. The bus was hit by the car, which was traveling east on Mesa College Drive. The bus then struck a parked car.

“It’s possible that there was a failure to yield by the bus driver and there’s also the possibility that the (other) driver was going in excess of the posted speed limit,” Contreras said.

The posted speed limit on Mesa College Drive is 30 m.p.h., she said. The CHP is responsible for investigating school bus accidents.
