At Harvard’s Ivy League cousin Brown University, school officials fearing a sullied reputation scuttled MTV’s plans to cover its upcoming spring celebration. Student organizers at the Providence, R.I., university turned down the rock cable channel’s request to cover the four-day series of concerts and parties after objections by Robert Reichley, the school’s vice president for university relations. Reichley said he was disturbed by last year’s MTV coverage at other colleges, including San Diego State: “It was very clear to us that they emphasized all of the party, social and drinking side of the thing. I just don’t think we have any desire to fall on our own spear and expose ourselves to that kind of thing.”
