Southern California Gas said it signed a 20-year contract valued at more than $260 million to transport natural gas to Shell Oil Co.’s enhanced oil recovery operations in Kern County. The contract, subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission, calls for transporting up to 250 million cubic feet of gas a day. SoCal Gas said it is the largest of the utility’s six long-term deals to deliver gas to the oil fields, where natural gas is used to generate steam that is piped underground to improve oil recovery.
