Local News in Brief : James Garner Has Bypass

Share

Actor James Garner was in satisfactory condition Thursday after undergoing quintuple heart bypass surgery.

Garner originally entered Cedars-Sinai Medical Center earlier this week for an operation to repair an aortic aneurysm, a weakening in the wall of the main artery carrying blood to the stomach, hospital spokesman Ron Wise said. But doctors at the Los Angeles hospital decided to postpone that surgery after tests showed that the 60-year-old Garner suffered from clogged blood vessels near the heart, Wise said.

Garner, who starred in the television series “Maverick” and “The Rockford Files,” was expected to be released in about a week, Wise said.
