An 18-year-old San Diego man was shot to death Wednesday night in an alley in the 3500 block of 42nd Street, police said.
Timothy J. Arceneaux of the 3500 block Van Dyke Avenue was shot once in the head with a bullet from a 9-millimeter, semiautomatic handgun about 10:20 p.m., police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Mervin Davis, 22, of San Diego, was booked into County Jail on Thursday morning, Robinson said.
Witnesses told police that the two men had been talking in the alley and that Davis was seen pointing the gun at Arceneaux, Robinson said. Davis told police the shooting was an accident.
Arceneaux was pronounced dead in the alley, Robinson said.
Investigators tracked down Davis near the scene and arrested him after questioning, Robinson said.
