A tour bus skidded off an icy freeway and onto its side in the Sierra Nevada mountains Friday night, but there were no reports of serious injuries, authorities said.

The accident alongside Interstate 80 near the town of Baxter was reported to the Truckee offices of the California Highway Patrol about 7:20 p.m., according to CHP dispatcher Patricia Whitchard.

She said emergency crews were removing people from the bus and that there was an overturned trailer-truck at the same location. She did not know how many passengers were involved or how the accident happened.

“At this point, all injuries appear to be minor,” Whitchard said, adding that several people were being taken to Auburn Faith Hospital.

The accident occurred in the westbound lanes of the freeway near the Whitmore Road exit at an elevation of 5,000 feet in Placer County.

Baxter is about 130 miles northeast of San Francisco.
