Ojai Valley Tennis Is Hit by Rain and Hail
The 89th Ojai Valley tennis tournament was marred by bad weather Saturday--rain and hail--that caused matches to be postponed until later in the day. Then, only eight matches were completed before play was stopped again, shortly before 2 p.m. Tournament officials decided to postpone the matches until 7:30 a.m. today.
Despite the official postponement, a few matches were played later in the afternoon once the rain stopped, most notably the Pacific 10 Conference singles semifinal between UCLA’s Buff Farrow and his teammate, Brian Garrow. Although Garrow squandered two match points in the ninth game of the second set and another in the 10th, he finally beat Farrow, 6-2, 7-6.
Garrow will meet either Carl Chang of California or Jeff Tarango of Stanford in the Pac-10 final today at noon. Chang and Tarango are scheduled to play their semifinal this morning at 9.
