Jessica Hahn, whose sexual encounter with Jim Bakker led to the TV preacher’s downfall, said Monday that her life has been threatened and “important papers” linked to investigations of the PTL ministry have been stolen from her apartment.

The theft occurred after she moved from her West Babylon, N.Y., apartment last year, but before she could take her possessions to her new home in the Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills, said Hahn, who returned to New York to give testimony to a state grand jury convened to investigate the break-in. “These were very important papers for the investigation,” she said.

The former church secretary, accompanied by her lawyer, said that she has received a series of written and telephoned death threats and that she has been followed by people in California.

“Some very strange things are happening,” she said, noting that police in Santa Monica had arrested a man responsible for one of the threats.

A Santa Monica police spokesman said Monday that a transient who “appeared to be deranged” was turned over to the Secret Service after he was found in a park May 2, “said it was his intention” to kill President Reagan and remarked that he knew that Jessica Hahn had been “killed by the United States government.” The transient told officers that Hahn was being impersonated in television appearances by a government impostor, Sgt. Barney Melekian said.
