After two games, the Philadelphia Phillies have seen enough of Danny Jackson.

The Cincinnati left-hander, pitched his second consecutive two-hitter against Philadelphia as the Reds snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over the Phillies Monday night at Philadelphia.

Jackson, acquired in the off-season from Kansas City, struck out five and walked three.

In his last four starts, Jackson has allowed two earned runs and his earned-run average is 2.04. Jackson (5-1) allowed only two hits in a 3-1 victory over the Phillies last Wednesday in Cincinnati.

“I didn’t feel as good tonight as I did in Cincinnati,” Jackson said. “I didn’t have a real good slider, and my change-up wasn’t that good. I threw mostly fastballs inside. That’s my game.”

The only hits off Jackson came on a single by Chris James leading off the third and a double by Mike Young to start the ninth.

“James hit a fastball and hit it good,” Jackson said. “Young hit a slider that was down and in.”

Jackson got his eighth career shutout and second this season.

Houston 6, New York 2--Danny Darwin pitched a seven-hitter and Kevin Bass had three hits and drove in a run to break out of a 3-for-24 slump as the Astros ended the Mets’ five-game winning streak at Houston.

Darwin (2-2) struck out seven en route to his first complete game, retiring 14 of the last 15 batters. Darwin lost to the Mets, 8-0, in New York last Wednesday.

Sid Fernandez (1-2) had not lost to the Astros since May 16, 1985, but gave up five runs and eight hits in 4 innings. He struck out four and walked one. He allowed one hit in five innings in the Mets win over Houston last Wednesday.

The Mets had lost just twice in their last 15 games. They committed four errors, leading to three unearned runs.

Atlanta 9, Montreal 8--Gerald Perry and Ron Gant each had a two-run double in a six-run third inning at Atlanta as the Braves edged the Expos.

Ken Griffey gave the Braves the lead in the second inning when he hit his first homer off starter Dennis Martinez (3-4).

Rick Mahler (1-4) ended a four-game losing streak and got his first victory since beating the Expos last Sept. 4.

Mahler survived a four-run rally by the Expos in the fifth. He allowed 11 hits, and was chased by three consecutive singles to start the eighth when the Expos scored four more runs.

Bruce Sutter bailed the Braves out of that inning and pitched the ninth for his second save.

St. Louis 7, San Diego 1--Rookie Luis Alicea’s two-run single capped a six-run second inning and Larry McWilliams scattered six hits over 6 innings as the Cardinals beat the Padres at St. Louis.

McWilliams (2-0) continued his strong comeback from off-season rotator cuff surgery. The 34-year-old left-hander, who made the Cardinals as a non-roster pitcher in spring training after being released by Pittsburgh, has given up just three earned runs in 32 innings this season.

The Cardinals blasted starter Ed Whitson (2-2), who lasted just 1 innings and gave up all six runs in the second. Whitson went only 1 innings April 28 against St. Louis before Vince Coleman knocked him out of the game with a line drive off his ankle. Whitson yielded four runs in that game.

San Francisco 8, Pittsburgh 6--Kevin Mitchell doubled for his fourth hit of the game and Jeffrey Leonard followed with his first homer to key a four-run eighth inning as the Giants beat the Pirates at Pittsburgh.

The Pirates made six errors, including two in the eighth inning by right fielder R.J. Reynolds, in a game delayed twice by rain.

Former Pirate Don Robinson (2-1) making his first appearance in Pittsburgh since being traded to San Francisco last July 31, gained the win despite surrendering a two-run homer to Bobby Bonilla in the seventh that gave the Pirates a 5-4 lead. It was Bonilla’s ninth homer, tying him with New York’s Darryl Strawberry and Chicago’s Andre Dawson for the league lead.
