Aragon’s Old Friend Sets Record Straight
I guess Art Aragon was hit harder than he thinks. We were in the same homeroom in the 10th grade at Roosevelt High School in 1944. In electric shop, Art brought a pair of dice every morning. We played for pennies and got caught, every day .
He didn’t fight as “Blackie Powers.” He fought as “Baby Face” Aragon and lost his first try at six rounds to Bert White at the Ocean Park Arena. I consoled him the next day in a street car on downtown Broadway. Remember street cars, Art? Memories!
