Local News in Brief : Laguna Niguel : 3 Persons Injured in Car-Truck Collision

Three people, including a 10-year-old girl, were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when a truck turned into the path of a car on La Paz Road, officials said.

The three people injured, all passengers of a car driven by Luis Barajas, 32, of San Juan Capistrano, were taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.

Barajas, who suffered head and chest injuries and facial cuts, was listed in satisfactory condition Wednesday afternoon. His 10-year-old daughter, Vanessa, who suffered a back fracture, head injuries and facial cuts, was listed in fair condition.

The girl’s grandmother, Esperanza Gonzales, 57, of San Juan Capistrano, who suffered fractured ribs and head injuries was also listed in fair condition, hospital officials said.

The driver of the truck, Mickey Genzel, 27, of Anaheim, and his passenger, Steve Cooley, 21, of El Toro, were not injured, the CHP spokesman said.

No charges have been filed, but an investigation is expected, the spokesman said.
