Hats Off to ‘Cats’

Share

Our family attended the production of “Cats” at Superior Street School in the San Fernando Valley. It was so well produced, directed and staged that I feel compelled to applaud their accomplishment. What was amazing to us was that the production was staged at a local elementary school. All children in grades 4 through 6 were encouraged to participate. No one was turned away who wanted a part in the play and maintained a C average during the several months of after-school practices.

The director was a fifth-grade teacher, Scott Mandel, an energetic and enthusiastic teacher, creative and talented in drawing out the best from his young actors. It was a very professional production. Costumes were made by parents of the participants. The stage setting was outstanding, as were the lighting and special effects. Most of all, the actors did a fine job in playing their parts, and they looked like they enjoyed what they were doing. It demonstrates what can be accomplished in our schools when teachers, parents and students work together.
