Peace Wins Turf Feature Race at Hollywood Park
Peace, who started from the outside post position, beat fast-closing White Mischief by a nose to win the $40,000 turf feature for 3-year-olds Friday at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Alan Sherman, Peace ran the mile in 1:33 4/5. Co-favorite of the crowd of 13,207, Peace paid $5.60, $4 and $3.40. The victory was worth $22,000 to owner Olin B. Gentry and increased Peace’s earnings to $81,950.
White Mischief, with Laffit Pincay up, returned $5 and $3.40. Blade of the Ball, a 30-1 shot with Alex Solis, was another 2 1/2 lengths back and paid $7.20.
The other co-favorite, Wakitai, finished seventh in the eight-horse field.
Peace, trained by Charlie Whittingham, sprinted to the front coming out of the gate. Impatient Charlie took the lead at the first turn,and held a length lead through the backstretch until Peace went back in front, approaching the final turn.
