James (Buddy) McGirt will make the first defense of his International Boxing Federation junior welterweight championship against Meldrick Taylor June 12 at the Rosemont Horizon in suburban Chicago.
McGirt, 24, who won the vacant title Feb. 14 with a knockout of Frank Warren, is 37-1-1 with 32 knockouts, avenging the only loss of his career.
Taylor, 22, a 1984 Olympic champion, is 18-0-1 with 10 knockouts.
