Services Will Mark Memorial Day

Air Force F-4 Phantom jets and World War II fighter planes flown by War Birds West will add a dramatic touch to Memorial Day services at 10 a.m. Monday at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes.

Also joining the tribute to Americans who have died in the service of their country will be the Marines Drum and Bugle Corps and color guards from the Coast Guard, Army and Air Force. The keynote speaker will be Maj. Gen. Robert R. Renkine, vice commander, Headquarters Space Division, Los Angeles Air Force Station.

Services at the Wilmington Cemetery, 625 East O St., will begin at 11 a.m. Monday with featured speaker Rupert H. Loyd, retired Navy captain, of San Pedro. Master of ceremonies will be Pat O’Connor, chaplain for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2967. Color guards from that post and from American Legion Post 287 will also participate.

The Annual Gardena Memorial Day service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Roosevelt Memorial Park Cemetery, 18255 S. Vermont Ave. The speaker will be Col. Dennis E. Beebe of the Air Force Space Division, Los Angeles Air Force Station. Organizations participating are Gold Star Mothers, Veterans of World War I, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, AMVETS, Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn., Fleet Reserve Assn., Royal Canadian Legion and the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets.

Dedication ceremonies for the Manhattan Beach War Veterans Memorial Plaque will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Marine Avenue Park, 1625 Marine Ave. Refreshments will be served after the ceremonies. For reservations or information call 545-5621, Ext. 325.
