Hatcher at No. 10 Downing St. Has a Friend in Thatcher

LONDON — The pitter-patter of tiny webbed feet will be heard soon at the house where British government policy is hatched.
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said today she is going to have a pond built for the Downing Street duck, which waddles over regularly from St. James’ Park to her office and home at No. 10 and lays eggs.
“We are going to get a little pond that they can learn to swim in,” she said of the expected brood of ducklings.
The duck no longer has to worry about falling into feline clutches. The official 10 Downing Street cat, Wilberforce, died last week.
