Warner Bros. will honor Mel Blanc at a luncheon celebrating the voice actor’s 80th birthday today. Blanc (who turned 80 on Memorial Day) began his career in radio. For “The Jack Benny Show” he provided the voice of the train conductor who rattled off the towns of “Anaheim, Azusa and CUC-amonga!” His work at Warner Bros. began with the voice of a drunken bull in the cartoon “Picador Porky” and soon expanded to include Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam and Sylvester. Although Blanc has taught his son, Noel, how to do his many voices, he remains active and provided the voice of Daffy Duck in the coming feature, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”
