A 26-year-old woman was found stabbed to death early Tuesday morning in her estranged husband’s Mira Mesa apartment. San Diego police arrested the husband on suspicion of murder.

Marylou Joseph of Oceanside apparently went to her husband’s apartment in the 8200 block of Flanders Drive at 10:40 p.m. to pick up the couple’s 3-year-old son, Kevin, police said.

Shortly before 1 a.m., neighbors phoned police after the boy rang their doorbell and told them something had happened to his mother, police said.

Aubrey Joseph, 33, Marylou Joseph’s estranged husband, phoned police after the neighbors did, saying he had just returned from the grocery store to find his wife stabbed to death in his apartment, said police spokesman Dave Cohen.

Marylou Joseph was found lying on a sofa in the living room with multiple stab wounds in the chest, neck and arms. Kevin Joseph was taken to Hillcrest Receiving Home, Cohen said.

Police interviewed Aubrey Joseph at length and took him into custody, Cohen said. Joseph, who is from the Virgin Islands, is a petty officer 1st class, assigned to the Miramar Naval Air Station.
