Local News in Brief : Countywide : Bar Panel Votes to Ask for Meese’s Resignation

The criminal law panel of the Orange County Bar Assn. voted Tuesday night to ask President Reagan to remove Edwin Meese as attorney general.

“Our feeling was that there is mounting evidence of misconduct by Mr. Meese, or at least the appearance of impropriety,” said Paul G. Stark, chairman of the criminal law section.

Stark said the motion was brought up last month by Laguna Hills attorney John Alexander. But it was tabled so all 84 members of the criminal law panel could receive notice and make comments, Stark said.

While he would not reveal the final vote, Stark said the motion carried easily.

Stark said he is now considering placing the motion before the entire Bar Assn.

The county bar and its panels seldom get involved in national issues, and, Stark said, some attorneys did question whether it was a proper issue for the criminal panel.
