Local News in Brief : Lower Bus Fare Proposed

Share

Officials of a new transit agency in the San Gabriel Valley proposed Wednesday offering lower fares than the Southern California Rapid Transit District on two express bus lines the agency will take over from RTD in July. The move by the executive board of the Foothill Transit Zone, which had previously decided to mirror RTD fares, comes in the wake of a 25-cent basic fare increase approved last week by the RTD board.

The executive board recommended that the full transit zone membership, made up of representatives from 20 San Gabriel Valley cities and the county, consider the rate at a special meeting June 24.

The transit zone staff has proposed a $90 monthly pass and a $2.70 cash price for riding two express lines from Glendora and the Rowland Heights-Diamond Bar area to downtown Los Angeles. Under rates adopted by RTD, the monthly pass would cost $102 and the cash price would be $3.10.
