Local News in Brief : 2 Sentenced in Car Scam
A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Friday to serve 270 days in County Jail for attempted grand theft in a plan to illegally ship cars to Mexico for sale.
Paul D. Orrin also was placed on three years’ probation by Superior Court Commissioner Florence-Marie Cooper, who called Orrin’s actions “a serious violation of public trust.”
A second one-time sheriff’s deputy, Richard C. Reynoso, was ordered by Cooper to perform 200 hours of community service for his role in the scheme. A third defendant in the case, Janette Morgan, who is Reynoso’s girlfriend, was placed on three years’ probation. All three had pleaded no contest in March.
They were arrested in April on information provided by a County Jail inmate. The inmate said Orrin had sought his help in disposing of two cars, one of which had been fraudulently acquired and the other fraudulently reported stolen by Morgan.
