Clues Rechecked in Slaying of Boy in His Tustin Home

Sheriff’s Department investigators Sunday continued to cordon off the East Tustin home where 13-year-old Greg Anderson was found stabbed to death three days earlier, while they worked inside the house and combed the neighborhood, seeking answers in the baffling crime.

Police declined to discuss the investigation, but a neighbor, Matt House, said they were again questioning him and other neighbors.

“They were asking if there was anything we remembered since the last time they talked to us that might be of some help,” House said. “They will only say that they have a lot of different theories they’re working on.”

Sister Found His Body

The boy’s 15-year-old sister had run over to the House residence Thursday afternoon after finding her brother’s body on the kitchen floor. House and another neighbor, who is a doctor, arrived at the house and saw the boy’s body in a pool of blood.

The boy apparently had been stabbed shortly after riding his bike home from nearby Hewes Middle School at 2:30 p.m. His father, Andy Anderson, was back East on business at the time. The boy’s stepmother had reportedly left just a short time before to work at the family’s church.

The Anderson family remained with the House family part of the day Sunday, watching Sheriff’s Department officials enter and exit their home immediately next door.

“The family still doesn’t know anything; they don’t even know for sure when they will be able to move back into the house,” House said.

He added that the Andersons have been told that they might be able to move back into the house today.

But investigators, who had worked well into Friday and Saturday nights, were still on the case in the after-dark hours Sunday.

“I’ve got to hand it to the sheriff’s people, they have been absolutely super,” House said. “It’s quite apparent that they’re doing everything they possibly can to solve this thing.”

House said the quiet, upper-middle-class neighborhood is still extremely shaken by the crime: “I don’t think my wife’s had more than three hours’ sleep since it happened.”

The Houses were close friends with the Andersons and are keeping their dog, Sam, for them the next few days.

The boy’s grandparents are staying in Orange County from Idaho and Northern California for the memorial services, scheduled for Tuesday at Alders Gate Methodist Church in Tustin.
