The sixth annual Jazz Tribute and Awards project, presented by the Los Angeles Jazz Society, was launched Sunday at the weekly jazz brunch in the Hollywood Holiday Inn, under the auspices of Teri Merrill-Aarons, founder and president of the society. This year’s nominees for the Jazz Pilgrimage Award, given to musicians who have been working in the Southland at least 20 years, are trumpeter Conte Candoli, tenor saxophonists Teddy Edwards, Bob Cooper and Harold Land, pianist Gerald Wiggins, guitarist Joe Pass, and bassist Monty Budwig. The name of the winner will be revealed at a press party in July; a celebration and concert honoring the winner will be scheduled in mid-September.
