Local News in Brief : New Coast Guard Chief
Rear Adm. J. William Kime has assumed command of the 11th Coast Guard District, which covers the entire California coast. Kime replaced Rear Adm. A. Bruce Beran in ceremonies in San Pedro.
The district Kime will oversee has 9,000 active-duty, reserve, civilian and Auxiliary Coast Guard personnel in the command. Kime has been chief of the Office of Marine Safety, Security and Environmental Protection in Washington.
