MISL Championship Series : Sockers Complete First Sweep
The San Diego Sockers completed the first championship series sweep in Major Indoor Soccer League history by scoring three goals late in the fourth quarter Tuesday night to defeat the Cleveland Force, 7-4.
It was the fourth time the Sockers have won the MISL crown and the sixth time they have been indoor soccer league champions. San Diego won the first two games of the best-of-seven series at home and the last two on Cleveland’s home field.
Hugo Perez, who was named the most valuable player in the series in which he had six goals, scored 11:53 into the fourth quarter to put the Sockers ahead, 5-4. After Cleveland went to a sixth attacker, Waad Hirmez scored twice.
