Two inmates were missing late Thursday night from their cell at County Jail in Chula Vista, but they were believed to be still inside the building, sheriff’s Deputy George Gardner said.

The two men were believed to be unarmed.

A hole in the cell’s ceiling was noticed about 8 p.m. during a routine check by deputies in the high-security area of the jail.

Chula Vista police were called and cordoned off the outside of the facility, while deputies searched inside with dogs, Gardner said.
