Secretary of Transportation James H. Burnley IV today proposed comprehensive drug testing for interstate truck and bus drivers.

“Drugs and any form of transportation are a deadly combination,” Burnley said at a news conference at a West Hollywood hotel. Burnley earlier this year proposed drug testing for aviation and railroad employees. The proposal for truck and bus drivers would cover an estimated 3 million to 5 million drivers who would be subject to pre-employment, post-accident and random drug testing.
