Glasnost in Irvine: Varied Views of the Soviet Union

Share

Here we go with another Soviet invasion of Orange County. Now they’re in Irvine, thanks to another “let’s understand each other” group.

Normally the longest journey starts with the first step. But in this case, whatever the Soviet people want is not taken into consideration by their leaders.

Yes, I know this is a difficult concept to understand. We can all glasnost and perestroika ourselves to death, but this will not change facts.

Maybe Americans, though they mean well, will learn of the Soviet Union’s turbulent past and its equally discombobulated present. Only then can Americans perceive the future of Soviet-American relations. What is really amazing is that the more the Soviets “change,” the more they remain the same.
