A badly decomposed body believed to be that of a missing woman was found stuffed in a suitcase inside her West Hollywood apartment early Wednesday and a transient was arrested for murder, authorities said.

Homicide detectives investigating a missing-persons report found the body inside a suitcase in the woman’s apartment in the 900 block of North Hancock Avenue, Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Smith said. The woman’s mother had reported her missing at 9:45 p.m. Monday.

An autopsy was scheduled, but the body is believed to be that of Rebecca Inannelli, who was in her 30s, Smith said.

Soon after the body was found, Stephen Benwell, 20, a transient who frequents the Hollywood area, was arrested on suspicion of murder, he said. Detectives did not reveal a motive for the slaying nor what led them to Benwell.
