A decomposed body found at a Santa Clarita Valley campground six weeks ago has been identified as that of a 25-year-old Sun Valley woman, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Thursday.

The remains were identified as those of Lisa O’Neil, said Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Hom. Hom said homicide detectives identified O’Neil through fingerprint checks.

O’Neil’s body was discovered by a hiker in a creek bed at the Live Oak Campground in Canyon Country on June 4.

It was estimated that O’Neil had been dead about a month, Hom said.

The cause of the woman’s death and the circumstances surrounding it are still under investigation, he said.
