Share

A Pacoima homeowner arrested twice in less than a year for firing guns at people outside his home was charged Friday with assault with a deadly weapon in the second incident, authorities said.

Joseph C. Grant, 53, was charged in a June 11 shooting in which he fired a shotgun at a man in front of his house in the 12700 block of Montford Street, Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Lupe Gonzalez said.

Police said Marlon Clark, 26, of Pacoima, was slightly injured in the right leg from three pellets from the shotgun blast. Police said Grant told them he fired into the street when someone fired a gun at his house. Clark was not arrested, police said, because they found no evidence that he was involved in illegal activity.

Grant, who is free on bail, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon Nov. 8 after a shot he fired into the street in front of his house struck a woman, who was slightly injured.

In that case, Grant told police the woman was selling drugs and he was trying to shoot above her to scare her away. As in the more recent case, the woman was not arrested because there was no evidence that she had committed a crime, police said. Grant’s trial on that charge is scheduled to begin Monday.
