Teller Queen Wins in Kindergarten Upset
Teller Queen, a 70-1 shot, won the $408,000 Kindergarten Futurity Saturday night at Los Alamitos by three quarters of a length, registering the biggest upset in the 34-year history of the quarter-horse race.
Breaking from the rail, Teller Queen won over 10-1 outsider Zip Into Cash. Another longshot, Moon Over Cari at 45-1, was third in the field of 10 2-year-olds. Favored Casadybrookhill finished fourth.
Ridden by Steve Treasure, Teller Queen ran the 350 yards in 17.65 seconds and paid $148.20, $46.60 and $12.80. The Easy Jet filly picked up the top prize of $151,240.
The previous top Kindergarten payoff was in 1984 when Real Easy Chick won at 34-1.
Zip Into Cash paid $8.80 and $4.80 and Moon Over Cari returned $11.20.
