Former Bishop Montgomery High and Harbor College quarterback Mike Mendoza has moved a step closer toward making his professional football debut.

The former Northern Arizona University standout was activated by the Arena Football League’s Cobras on Thursday and could see action Saturday at Providence against the New England Steamrollers.

Mendoza, 24, was signed June 9 but was the team’s 19th man for its past two games. Arena Football active rosters are limited to 18 players, with an additional player in uniform but permitted to play only in an emergency.

The Cobras are Mendoza’s second stop in the pro ranks. He was in training camp with the Raiders in 1985 but was released before playing any preseason games.
