Arts Council to Seek Ideas From Public

The California Arts Council will hold a meeting to seek public ideas on issues ranging from specific council programs to its administration and its 1989-90 budget.

The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 15 at the Asian Art Museum in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. Members of leading state organizations will speak, but the public is also encouraged to attend.

Topics and times for discussion:

* 10-11:15 a.m.: Artists in social institutions (part of the artist-in-residence program)--focus on Arts Council responsibility, target populations and increasing state need for these programs.

* 11:15 a.m.-12:30: Multi-year funding, ranking and support--focus on advantages and disadvantages of multi-year funding, and changes in criteria for applicants and review panels.

* 12:30-1:30 p.m: Break for lunch.

* 1:30-2:45 p.m.: Long-range planning--input from arts organizations; projections for the next three to four years.

* 2:45-4 p.m.: the Arts Council’s 1989-90 budget--existing budget, administration, arts-in-education, economic impact.

* 4-5 p.m.: Additional public testimony.

Those who cannot be present may submit written testimony to the California Arts Council, 1901 Broadway, Suite A, Sacramento, Calif. 95818-2492.

Members of the public are invited to address the council and are encouraged to bring copies of their remarks. No representatives from Orange County arts organizations have been scheduled to speak.
