A 21-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting early Monday as he stood in front of his Pacoima home, Los Angeles police said.

Augustin Torres was in critical but stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills after a bullet was removed from his lower abdomen, hospital spokeswoman Holly Lyons said.

Witnesses said Torres was standing in front of his home in the 13000 of Carl Street at 1:35 a.m. when a brown mid-size car pulled up. A short conversation was followed by a single shot, which hit Torres, police said.

“It is being treated as a gang-related shooting,” police Detective Clifford Ruff said. He said investigators have two suspects but have not arrested them.

Officers who had heard the shot stopped a speeding car with a man and a boy inside who appeared to be fleeing, police said. But the two later were released.
