Share

An El Toro man escaped serious injury Tuesday when his vehicle struck the rear of a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder of the southbound Interstate 5 near El Toro Road, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

John P. Taylor, 27, suffered only minor injuries after his Suzuki Samurai hit the big rig which was being towed about 12:20 p.m. Taylor’s vehicle then spun into the northbound lanes of the freeway and was hit by two other tractor-trailers, destroying the Samurai, CHP Officer Todd Wise said.

Taylor, who reportedly told investigators that he did not see the parked big rig, was taken to Saddleback Hospital & Health Center in Laguna Hills, where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.

None of the other drivers were injured in the collision. But northbound freeway traffic was backed up two miles for several hours while the wreckage was cleared.
