SUNDAY

MONDAY

Acton--Parade starts at 11 a.m. on Crown Valley Road, just south of the freeway. Free.

Alhambra--Games and activities from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Local entertainment at 7, followed by fireworks at 9 at Almansor Park, 800 S. Almansor St. Free.

Artesia--Celebration starts at 11 a.m. at Artesia Park, 18750 Clarkdale St. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Free.

Baldwin Park--Games, entertainment and fireworks sponsored by the Baldwin Park Chamber of Commerce; Sierra Vista High School, 3600 Frazier St. 4 p.m. Free.

Burbank--Fireworks and celebration begin at 7 p.m. at John Burroughs High School Memorial Field at 1920 Clark Ave. Free.

Cabrillo Beach--Fireworks, hosted by the Cabrillo Marine Museum will begin at 9:15 p.m. Free.

Carson--Fireworks at dusk at the Olympic Velodrome at Cal State Dominguez Hills, on Victoria Street, east of Avalon Boulevard. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Free.

Cerritos--Pancake breakfast sponsored by Boy Scout Troup 547 at 7 a.m. at Cerritos Park East, 13234 E. 166th St. Games and entertainment begin at 10 a.m., with fireworks at dusk. Free.

Commerce--Entertainment, rides and food will be featured from noon to 6 p.m. at Rosemead Park, 5600 Harbor St. Free.

Covina--Festivities, featuring rides, games and entertainment, will be held at Covina Park, Badillo and 4th streets, starting at 10 a.m.

El Sereno--A parade, starting at Huntington Drive south to Klamath, runs from 9:30 a.m to noon.

El Segundo--Crafts, food, and entertainment at 11 a.m., with fireworks at dusk. Recreation Park, 401 Sheldon St. Free.

Gardena--Food, games and races begin at 1 p.m. Fireworks at dusk. Rowley Park, 13220 S. Van Ness Ave. at 132 St. Free.

Glendale--First United Methodist Church of Glendale will hold a celebration featuring a picnic and a patriotic singer at Carlson Fellowship Center, 130 N. Kenwood St. Adults, $5. Children, $3.50.

Inglewood--Swimming and sports begin at 11 a.m., with fireworks at dusk. Centinela Park baseball diamond one, 700 Warren Lane. Free.

La Mirada--The La Mirada Kiwanis Club will sponsor fireworks and entertainment at La Mirada High School stadium, 13520 Adelfa Drive. Food will be served at 6 p.m., followed by band music at 7:30 and fireworks at 9. Adults, $5; children ages 6 to 12, $3. Children under 6 will be admitted free.

La Verne--Celebration starts with a parade beginning and ending at Las Flores Park, 3175 Bolling Ave. There will be a county fair at the park from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at Bonita High School, 3120 D St. Adults, $4; children, $3.

Lakewood--Swimming and games from 1 to 6 p.m. at Mayfair Park, 5720 N. Clark St. Entertainment from 1 to 5 p.m., with fireworks beginning at 9. Free.

Long Beach--The Queen Mary, city and Long Beach Centennial will sponsor fireworks at 8:45 p.m. near the Queen Mary. Free.

Lawndale--Tribute to the Legends group impersonating Elvis Presley, Ritchie Valens, Hank Williams and the Beatles. Leuzinger High School, Rosecrans and Larch avenues. 7 p.m. Doors open at 5. Free.

Lomita--Celebration of Lomita Founders Day, marking 24th anniversary of the city’s incorporation. Also, craft shows, food booths, dog obedience, music and clowns. Begins at 10 a.m. Fireworks at dusk. Free.

Lynwood--The city’s Recreation and Parks Department will hold its fourth annual Fourth of July Youth Baseball All-Star Classic at Lynwood City Park, 3798 Century Blvd. The opponent will be the City of Carson. Games will be played every two hours beginning at noon. Fireworks will follow at 8:15. Free.

Marina del Rey--Dixieland jazz concert at 2 p.m. at Burton Chase Park on Mindanao Way. Fireworks at 9. Free parking will be available in county parking lots at 4 p.m. Free.

Monrovia--Picnic sponsored by the Monrovia Department of Community Services. Monrovia High School, 845 W. Colorado Blvd. From noon. Free.

Monterey Park--Festivities, including carnival rides, a dunk tank, a special appearance from Mayor Christopher E. Houseman, and music in the amphitheater will begin at Barnes Park at noon. Fireworks will begin at 9:30.

Northridge--The Northridge, Chatsworth and Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce will hold its 10th annual Tri Chambers Great America Fireworks Spectacular. Program will feature country-western, blues and jazz bands, clowns and comedians. Devonshire Downs, 18000 Devonshire St., Northridge. Gates open at 3 p.m. Adults, $6.50; children, $4.50.

Pacific Palisades--A community parade begins on Swarthmore Street and will run from 2 to 4 p.m.

Palos Verdes Estates--Awarding of Kenneth T. Norris Jr. Heritage of Freedom Award to Jan C. Scruggs, who spearheaded the movement for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington. Also, bicycle parades and reading of American essays. Malaga Cove School, 300 Paseo del Mar, Palos Verdes. Begins at 10 a.m. Free.

Pasadena--Americafest fireworks show at the Rose Bowl, including the Yerkes Circus and Thrill Show and a concert. A 30-minute fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. Adults, $12; children, $8. No admission charge for seniors and children under 3. Also, a light show will be held at the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. $2.

Pomona--Classic cars, food, entertainment and fireworks at Fairplex Park, the county fairgrounds. Noon. Adults, $4; children ages 7 to 12, $2; free for children under 6. Parking is $3.

Rancho Pales Verdes--County fair Independence Day celebration, with arts, crafts, music and food. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. City Hall, 30940 Hawthorne Blvd. Free.

Rosemead--Celebration with live entertainment and carnival rides at Rosemead Park, 4300 Encinita Ave., starting at 9 a.m., with a baby concert for children under 3. Fireworks at dawn. Free.

San Marino--Parade will begin at 5 p.m. at the corner of Huntington Drive and Monterey Road. The San Marino Dads Band will provide music; fireworks will begin after dark. Free.

San Pedro--Celebration at Cabrillo Beach, 3720 Stephen M. White Drive. 9 p.m.

Santa Monica--The second annual daybreak fireworks will take place at 5 a.m. at the east end of Santa Monica Pier, with all-American songs by the Los Angeles Pops Orchestra. Also, at 4:30 p.m., Santa Monica College will present “Celebrate America,” a festival featuring fireworks at the college’s Corsair Stadium, 1900 Pico Blvd. Both events are free. (Thursday’s Westside section of The Times listed an incorrect day for the fireworks display.)

South El Monte--A celebration to recognize the 30th anniversary of the city’s incorporation will take place from noon to 6 p.m. at 1530 Central Ave.

South Pasadena--Celebrating the city’s centennial, an assortment of birthday cake-like floats will proceed to Garfield Park from Mission Street and Meridian Avenue at 11:30 a.m. A Dixieland jazz band will entertain.

Sunland-Tujunga--The Rotary Club will hold a pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 9 a.m. Tickets are $4. A parade, originating at the corner of Foothill and Gleason, will begin at 10 a.m. and will end at the park, 8651 Foothill Blvd., Sunland. Festivities will continue with a chili cook-off and live entertainment. Free.

Temple City--Games and a picnic will take place at Live Oak Park, 10144 Bogue St. Free.

Torrance--”Spirit of America” 5K and children’s run at 8 a.m. Games and entertainment at noon. Fireworks at 9 p.m. Wilson Park, 2200 Crenshaw Blvd. Free.

Venice Beach--Open muscle contest beginning at 2 p.m.

Walnut--A fireworks show, including a sky-diving exhibition and a concert, will be held at Mt. San Antonio College stadium, 1100 N. Grand Ave. Gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the West Covina or Walnut chambers of commerce. Adults, $7; senior citizens and teen-agers, $3. Children under 6 free. A family pass is available for $20.

Whittier--Food, games and entertainment, featuring the Horsefeather Boys and the Rainbow Gamblers, will be sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Whittier and the city at York Field, Slauson Avenue and Santa Fe Springs Road. Gates will open at 4 p.m. Adults, $5; children under 12, $2. Preschool children admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the Whittier Community Center, 7630 Washington Ave.

Woodland Hills--The Chamber of Commerce will hold a program with a special salute to local Vietnam veterans. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the celebration will feature an appearance by Universal Studios’ Western Stunt Show and the Hi-Flight Sky Diving Team. Fireworks will conclude the evening’s entertainment. Pierce College, 6201 Winnetka Ave. Adults, $8; seniors and children, $6.
