Billups Stops White in Fifth to Win State Heavyweight Title
Levi Billups landed three consecutive rights to score a fifth-round technical knockout of Mike White and become the state heavyweight champion in the main event Thursday night before a crowd of 1,450 at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.
Billups (14-3) was strong from the outset, using his left jab to work inside the 7-foot, 270-pound White (22-8), who suffered the first knockdown of his career.
Billups, 6 feet 1 inch and 211, pinned White on the ropes in the fifth round and finally dropped him with 2:07 left. White got up, but the fight was stopped.
