San Diego Council Unit Supports Sale of Stray Animals for Research

SAN DIEGO —
Voting to support a county program under which some seized stray animals are sold to UC San Diego for research purposes, the San Diego City Council’s Public Services and Safety Committee voted 5 to 0 to reject an animal rights group’s request that the city ban the use of its animals for scientific experiments.
The animal rights group, Stop Taking Our Pets, lost a similar bid last November to end the contract between the county and the university.
