A 17-year-old suspected killer who escaped from a juvenile detention facility earlier this year was captured early Saturday at a South-Central Los Angeles motel where he was hiding out with his mother, authorities said.

Michael Stevenson, who escaped from Eastlake Juvenile Hall in March, was handcuffed and subdued after “a minor struggle” during the 2:30 a.m. raid on his motel room by sheriff’s investigators, Deputy Roger Hom said.

The suspect’s mother, Gwendolyn Milton, 33, was also arrested, booked on suspicion of harboring a fugitive and held at the Sybil Brand Institute for Women with bail set at $5,000, Deputy Detta Roberts said.
