A 12-year-old boy suspected of setting a fire that destroyed an unused lumber yard was arrested in his La Mesa home late Sunday night, according to a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

The boy was arrested after witnesses reported that he had started the two-alarm fire that burned down the two-story Ward Lumber Co. on Massachusetts Avenue in Lemon Grove and an adjacent storage building, and caused about $13,000 in damage to 13 cars at the nearby Corral Ford dealership, Sgt. Conrad Grayson said.

The boy, who is being charged with multiple arson, will probably be held at Juvenile Hall until a decision is reached on his case, Grayson said.
