University of Colorado starting halfback J.J. Flannigan, a prep star at Pomona High, has been arrested on charges of assault after a confrontation involving his girlfriend and a passer-by, authorities say.
The athlete’s girlfriend, Kimberlee Heiser of Longmont, Colo., also was arrested in the Friday night incident outside a theater, Boulder, Colo., police said.
Flannigan, 19, and Heiser, 22, reportedly began arguing and scuffling with one another after the movie. A witness attempted to intervene, but Flannigan allegedly threatened the man, police said.
Flannigan is the third starter in the Colorado backfield arrested on criminal charges since the season ended.
