Local News in Brief : Lawyer Guilty of Theft
A West Hollywood attorney was convicted Friday of stealing more than $39,000 from the estate of a client, a suspected drug dealer who was murdered in 1984.
Attorney Robin Von Welzig, 45, was also convicted of forging a document to the state Board of Equalization, which falsely stated that the client, Paul Travis, had given her a Mercedes-Benz automobile as a gift.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Albert MacKenzie believes Travis gave her the car to pay for his legal fees. If he had given the vehicle to her as a gift, she would not have to pay sales taxes on it. Von Welzig represented Travis in a credit fraud case.
