A 27-year-old Fountain Valley man was shot in the foot Thursday night after he and his co-workers got into an argument with another group of men, police said.

The victim was identified as James Terry Crow.

Around 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Crow told police, he was standing on East 4th Street near Grand Avenue when a friend went across the street to buy beer at a convenience store, Santa Ana Police Lt. Robert Chavez said.

“(The victim) didn’t know what transpired in the store,” Chavez said. But when Crow’s friend returned, a group of six men was yelling insults at Crow and the friend in Spanish and English, he said.

Crow and three friends then took several crowbars from Crow’s work truck and confronted the other group of six.

“They talked to the group for a few minutes, and it appeared that everything was under control,” Chavez said.

The group of six walked away but then returned. Four or five shots were fired and Crow was hit in the foot, Chavez said.
