Twice Elegant Wins by Five Lengths

Twice Elegant took over from The Brazilian coming out of the clubhouse turn and was in complete command the rest of the way Friday while scoring a five-length victory in the feature race at Hollywood Park.
Twice Elegant, a 3-year-old California-bred colt, covered the 1 1/8 miles on the turf in 1:46 4/5 under leading jockey Gary Stevens and strengthened trainer Craig Lewis’ hold on first place in the Hollywood Park trainer standings. Lewis goes into the final three days of the 68-day meeting with 24 victories, 3 more than Julio Canani and defending spring-summer champion Dick Mandella.
Twice Elegant, a son of Somethingfabulous who was unraced as a 2-year-old and is victorious for the third time in 10 starts this year, returned $4.00, $2.60 and $2.10 as the even-money favorite. The Brazilian, rallying from last place in the six-horse field after the first half-mile, paid $2.80 and $2.10. Another 1 lengths behind was Vigors Commander, paying $2.10 to show. The minus show pool of $1,104.16 was the third of the meeting.
Twice Elegant earned $19,250 for the victory from the total purse of $35,000, bringing his earnings to $63,650.
