Artesia : City Manager Resigns
After more than two years as Artesia’s city manager, E. Eugene Romig has resigned, effective Friday.
Mayor James A. Van Horn said the council will meet in closed session during a regular meeting Monday to discuss naming a replacement for Romig. Romig has been city manager of the community of 15,000 since May, 1986.
“He is not leaving under any cloud or something. He leaves with our best wishes,” Van Horn said.
Romig, 47, said in an interview that he believed it was “the appropriate time to move on.” He said it was time for a career change.
Romig said he was leaving the city in “good financial shape” with a budget of $3.1 million and a reserve of about $500,000.
Romig was hired by the city as a personnel consultant in 1985. He was later named assistant city manager, then city manager.
Romig previously worked for the city of Whittier for 12 years in a number of positions, including city clerk, treasurer and assistant city manager.
