Controlled Burns Set for Topanga

Share

The Los Angeles County Fire Department will conduct burns near Topanga School and the Topanga Clubhouse to clear out “safe zones” where residents can gather and engine companies can move in during a fire. The Fire Department will also burn chaparral and other flammable vegetation collected by residents near their homes and brought to the Big Rock area in Malibu. The burns are expected to take place during favorable weather conditions before mid-September.

Chaparral has already been burned along the 1,000-acre historic wildfire corridor along the rim dominating Topanga Canyon and parallel to Mulholland Drive from Canoga Avenue to Reseda Boulevard. The burns are expected to reduce the fire hazard in that area.
