On the strength of a hit single, “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” Def Leppard, the current pop/metal masters, celebrated one full year on the Billboard magazine pop chart with “Hysteria” by inching back to No. 1. Though Guns N’ Roses’ “Appetite For Destruction” slipped two notches to No. 3, its fast-rising single,”Sweet Child o’ Mine,” (No. 13) might propel these hard rockers back on top. Pat Benatar’s “Wide Awake in Dreamland” shot up to No. 36 after a month on the chart, shutting up detractors who claim the veteran rock queen is a has-been. Country star Randy Travis’ new album, “Old 8 x 10,” (No. 38) could be his biggest yet. Steve Winwood’s single “Roll With it” is still No. 1 on the pop singles chart, propelling the album of the same name to the No. 2 slot in that category.

* The new album by this R&B; crooner, who’s big with black fans and largely unknown to the pop masses, debuted at No. 58. Like his first two, it’s expected to sell at least a million copies.
