NFL Exhibition Roundup : Tony Zendejas’ 2 Field Goals Give Oilers 13-9 Win Over Bills
Tony Zendejas kicked second-half field goals of 37 and 22 yards, and the Houston Oilers scored a 13-9 exhibition victory over the Buffalo Bills Thursday night at Houston.
Zendejas’ 37-yard kick with 2:42 left in the third quarter gave the Oilers a 10-9 lead, ending a drive led by backup quarterback Brent Pease.
Oiler linebacker Al Smith’s interception of a pass by third-string quarterback Stan Gilbaugh set up the field goal.
Buffalo starter Jim Kelly didn’t suit up for the game because of an ankle injury, and backup Frank Reich suffered a shoulder injury and didn’t play in the second half.
Buffalo’s Kerry Brady kicked second-quarter field goals of 33, 25 and 21 yards, giving the Bills a 9-7 halftime lead.
Starting quarterback Warren Moon led the Oilers to a touchdown on their first drive of the game, capped by a one-yard dive by Mike Rozier. Moon played only the first series, completing all three of his passes for 62 yards.
Rozier had runs of 9 and 11 yards in the drive, and Moon hit running back Allen Pinkett on a 43-yard pass play to the Bill 1.
Seattle 21, Phoenix 7--The Cardinals, playing their first game since moving to Phoenix from St. Louis, lost to the Seahawks in the Kingdome as Dave Krieg passed for two touchdowns in a 13-second span of the first quarter and Mark Moore returned a fumble 81 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
