County Team Wins Connie Mack Opener
Sean Mulligan and Tony Muser both had three RBIs to lead the Orange County Cardinals past the Arizona A’s, 13-4, in the first round of the Connie Mack Western Regional in Bellevue, Wash.
The game was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the eight-run rule. A team leading by eight or more runs after five innings is declared the winner.
Mulligan and Muser both had two hits, and Mike Smedes pitched three innings for the victory.
The Orange County team will play Oregon in a second-round game at 3:30 today.
